Florida's Treasure Coast gets its name from the lost Spanish Treasure Fleet lost in a 1715 hurricane. The Treasure Coast is also bordered by the Atlantic portion of the Intracoastal Waterway, a stretch of closed water from Brownsville, TX to Boston, MA notably the Indian River and the Indian River Lagoon, at a length of 156 miles, extending from the Ponce de Leon Inlet in Volusia County to Jupiter Inlet in Palm Beach County, the Indian River Lagoon is one the most biodiverse estuaries in the Northern Hemisphere.
